Discover the heart of Newfoundland through the eyes of Dory the Doodle.

This charming children’s picture book was born from the love, laughter, and legacy of Newfoundland musician Mark Hiscock – co-founder of the beloved band Shanneyganock and one of the province’s finest accordion players.

In 2020, Mark and his wife, Kelly, welcomed a golden doodle named Dory into their lives. Named after the traditional Newfoundland fishing boat – and inspired by one of Mark’s signature songs, “Fishing in a Dory” – this playful pup quickly became the heart of their home.

Inspired by Dory’s joyful spirit and his own storytelling gift, Mark began creating a children’s book series that would follow Dory the Doodle on adventures across Newfoundland and Labrador. Each story would celebrate the province’s breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and proud history – all through the eyes of an endearing four-legged explorer.

Though Mark’s life was tragically cut short before he could complete his first book, his wife, Kelly Traverse, lovingly carried his dream forward. Through her dedication, Dory the Doodle continues Mark’s legacy – sharing laughter, learning, and Newfoundland pride with a new generation of readers.

A celebration of love, adventure, and the spirit of Newfoundland – for children and families everywhere.
